Animal Friends Insurance will launch a new range of pet insurance policies on 6th May 2009. Starting at just £3.27 per month for a dog. Cheaper premiums right across the board will now also be available for customers choosing a higher excess option.

Animal Friends, the UK pet insurer that donates its net profits to support animal charities worldwide, will now offer perhaps the widest range of pet insurance options currently available in the UK – and the most comprehensive.

The policies on offer will include full lifetime cover – giving up to a staggering £40,000 per condition for life – to a unique entry level product, an Accident Only Policy, which starts at just £3.27 per month for dogs.

All new polices – save for Accident Only – will also now include Free Overseas Travel Cover as standard, allowing up to £2000 emergency vets fees cover in EU countries for those who take their pets with them on holiday.

Animal Friends will offer 7 different policy options ensuring there is a product for every pocket and need. To further help pet owners in difficult financial times Animal Friends will offer two choices of vet fee Excess – £49 or £99 – giving customers a further chance of reducing premiums by selecting the higher Excess.

As before, Animal Friends will continue to insure pets at any age, so even older pets can be insured for the first time with premiums being kept low by a method of co-insurance which makes things fair for those who find they don’t have to claim.

Saga Pet Insurance has advised animal owners who lose their furry friends to make sure they communicate the loss to as many people as possible.

The recommendation comes as research by Saga revealed that 30 per cent of Brits have lost cats or dogs, with 13 per cent of lost pets never making it back home.

“Losing a pet is always heartbreaking so appealing for information and raising awareness of a lost pet can be vital in ensuring it’s safe return,” said Andrew Goodsell, chief executive at Saga Group.

Pet insurance is for life, not just when you can afford it

In these times of financial hardship consumers are looking at ways of saving money and insurance is an area that will come under scrutiny, warned Mike Powell, Principal Consultant for General Insurance at Defaqto, the independent financial industry expert.

Powell has warned that because it is not a compulsory insurance, and is usually seen as a luxury, consumers may choose to cancel their pet insurance policies to try and save money.

Dignity For Owners And Pets

February 24, 2009 by admin

Leading veterinary charity PDSA has announced the launch of an innovative scheme to help supporters beat the credit crunch and raise funds for sick and injured pets.

As the average cost of a funeral continues to rise, PDSA has joined forces with one of Britain’s largest providers of funeral services to offer a range of pre-paid funeral plans.

The joint initiative with Dignity Funeral Plans will cover policyholders’ funeral expenses with a donation being made to PDSA for every plan purchased, helping the charity to achieve its goal of funding treatment for pets in need of vets.

John Cole, PDSA Head of Direct Marketing, said, “We believe that this scheme will appeal to the many people across Britain who support the very vital work we do as a charity as well as providing them with peace of mind.

“It’s never easy to talk about planning a funeral, whether it’s your own or that of a loved one. However, dealing with arrangements in advance, including the cost, is a practical and sensible thing to do and can also bring comfort at a most sensitive time.”

How to speed up your Pet Insurance claims

Helpful advice with Pet Insurance Claims

Here are a collection of tips and instructions to help you speed up your pet insurance claim.

  1. Always make sure you have plenty of pet insurance claim forms – This way if you ever need to make a claim, you don’t have to call your insurer and wait for them to send a claim form out. You can just fill in the form and hand it straight to your veterinary practice.
  2. Read and fill in your form carefully – Many people do not fill in their form correctly and this leads to delays and/or possible rejection of claims. If in doubt ask a member of staff at your veterinary practice that is familiar with pet insurance claims. Many insurance companies are also happy to deal with problems or enquiries regarding filling out the form over the phone.
  3. Who does the insurer need to pay? – If the wrong party is paid by the pet insurance company this can lead to long delays. Claiming money back from the vet after a mis-payment to them, can be an unnecessary stress.
  4. Note when and who you submit your form to – It would be beneficial to remember when and who you submitted your form to at your veterinary practice as human error can occur, e.g. forms going missing. Most veterinary practices also have a dedicated member of staff who processes the insurance claims, it would be beneficial to note their name too just in case you have any questions regarding your claims progress or lack of progress.
  5. Find out how long your veterinary practice take to complete claims forms – Veterinary practices vary considerably, some complete their part of the claims form within 24-48 hours of receiving it, others can take days or sometimes weeks. It is important to find out how long it would approximately take as you may be relying on the insurance claim being processed quicker than it actually is. Remember your insurance company can not assess your claim until they receive all relevant information, be it from your veterinary practice or from your selves.
  6. Find out how long claims should take once with insurance company - This can differ from company to company and it is important to find out, as again you may be wasting valuable time under the impression your claim is being processed – but in fact the form did not arrive or there were other complications.

What to do if there are problems or delays with your claim

  1. Chase your claim up with the insurance company – Remember as with the veterinary practice always note the person’s name, the date and the time at which you called. It is easier to deal with that one individual each time you contact your insurance company, especially if problems regarding your claim persist. Your insurance company should have computer logs containing all relevant details regarding your call. Should an advisor not see through to completion an enquiry, yourself and your insurance company can chase up the person involved.
  2. Chase your claim up with the veterinary practice – Inquire with the veterinary practice (remembering the name of the person with whom you submitted the form) as to when and / or if the form was submitted.

An Important Change to Argos Pet Insurance

January 17, 2009 by admin

The following is a Press Release from Argos Pet Insurance

From 17th January 2009 Argos Pet Insurance will be underwritten by a new insurer – Agria International Forsakring AB. From this date all new policies and those renewing will be insured by Agria rather than the current insurer AXA Insurance.

Bolton, UK (PRWEB) January 17, 2009 — Agria is a relatively new name in the UK, so we thought you might appreciate some further information about this change.

Who are Agria International?

Agria International is a part of Agria Djurförsäkring, the number one pet insurer in Sweden. Both companies are subsidiaries of the leading insurance group in Sweden, the Länsforsäkringar Alliance.

Agria first started offering animal insurance in Sweden in 1890 so have over 100 years experience in this specialist area. They now operate in six European Countries.

They bought UK Based company PetPartners in 2007 and have started to underwrite a number of leading brands for pet insurance in the UK.

Why has Argos changed from AXA Insurance?

The Pet Insurance market is changing as insurance companies get more experience of the level of claims being made by customers. More sophisticated treatments are becoming available and the cost of treatment is increasing. This is putting pressure on insurers to raise their prices. Some companies, like AXA, offer pet insurance as part of a wide range of other insurance products, others like Agria concentrate on a specialist area. Argos felt that a change of insurer would benefit our customers in the long run, as a specialist pet insurer underwriting our product could help limit proposed price increases.

What difference does this make to customers?

There will be no noticeable difference to customers. The Argos pet insurance product remains unchanged with the same benefits and features as before. There is also no change in our policy towards payment of claims and our call centre remains the same and is based in the UK.
